ABC has cancelled Men in Trees, a TV series that has been shooting in Squamish and in North Vancouver for the past three years.

The quirky hour-long comedy starred actress Anne Heche and Nova Scotia actor James Tupper. Heche played a relationship-advice expert who falls for Tupper after moving to a small Alaska town.

The show had a loyal following, but not sufficient ratings to sustain it, according to TV Guide, which first reported the show was facing the axe.

But creator Jenny Bicks told TV Guide Men in Trees had suffered from being moved six times into different time slots, including Friday nights, a notoriously poor time to attract viewers.

A finale is now being planned. Men in Trees starts its final run of episodes on Wednesday, May 28 and will end during the summer.

Most of the U.S. networks, including ABC, Fox, CBS and CW are expected announce their fall lineups next week.

Among the other shows that may be cut are Women's Murder Club, Back to You and 'Til Death.
