Sex and the City actress Kim Cattrall is set to receive a special honour at the upcoming Banff World Television Festival, organizers announced on Tuesday.

The U.K.-born, Vancouver-raised actress will be presented the NBC Universal Award of Distinction, which recognizes an "outstanding career in the broadcast industry," at a ceremony on June 9.

"Ms. Cattrall has an incredibly prolific and successful career in both films and television," Jennifer Harkness, the festival's executive director, said in a statement.

"It's a thrill to welcome her to this festival that celebrates the best in the industry."

The festival runs from June 8 to June 11.

Past winners of the award have included actor Colm Feore and screenwriter-director Paul Haggis.

The 51-year-old Golden Globe-winnning actress has had a busy career balancing television and film, with many early movie credits including comedic turns in the 1980s, such as in the bawdy teen flick Porky's, the ensemble comedy Police Academy, the action thriller Big Trouble in Little China and the romantic comedy Mannequin.

However, she broke through internationally as the saucy vamp Samantha Jones in HBO's smash TV series Sex and the City — a role she has reprised for the upcoming film adaptation.

In 2004, the Toronto branch of the organization Women In Film and Television honoured Cattrall with one of its Crystal career achievement awards.
