Governor General appoints 75 to Order of Canada

Gov. Gen. Michalle Jean announced 75 new appointments to the Order of Canada on Tuesday. The new appointees include five companions — the order's highest rank — as well as 26 officers, 43 members and one honorary officer. The appointments were made on the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the Order of Canada. Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date. The order's newly appointed companions include: - Former prime minister Kim Campbell
- Former Supreme Court of Canada justice John C. Major
- Billionaire businessman Wallace McCain, co-founder of the New Brunswick-based McCain Foods empire
- Architect Raymond Moriyama, who designed the new Canadian War Museum in Ottawa as well as the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto
- Historian and author Marcel Trudel of Boucherville, Quebec
