The Walrus gets 37 magazine award nominations

French-language news magazine L'actualit, Montreal culture magazine Maisonneuve and Toronto Life will compete for Magazine of the Year at the National Magazine Awards. Awards nominations, and winners in three categories, were released by the National Magazine Awards Foundation on Monday. Charles Oberdorf, food writer at Toronto Life, has won the Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement for his exceptional contributions to the Canadian magazine community. Best new magazine writer is Patrick White for his article Red Rush from The Walrus and best student writer is Julia Belluz for her article, entitled I, that appeared in the Ryerson Review of Journalism. The Walrus, a big winner at last year's NMAs, has 37 nominations this year. Other multiple nominations went to Toronto Life (29), Maclean's (18), Report on Business (16) and L'actualite (15). Writers John Lorinc, Ray Ford, Duncan Hood and Tabatha Southey received three nominations each.
