IF you think the idea of an all-new Trabant is laughable, the joke is on you! Famous East European brand Trabant is on the comeback trail, thanks to German toy maker, Herpa.
Bosses unveiled a 1 to 10 scale model called newTrabi at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and it provoked so much interest, they’re planning to build a full-size mock-up. Herpa owns the production rights for future Trabants, and has teamed up with specialist firm Indikar to develop a 1:1 scale model of its vision. The aim is to have a prototype ready for the 2009 Frankfurt show.
If you can’t wait for a production Trabant to arrive, help is at hand, though, because Herpa will unveil a miniature version at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, this week.
