Spinning brush a big turn-off - Soaping wheel brush

18.01.2008 15:03 Auto - Source: Auto Express

Anything that claims to make cleaning your alloy wheels easier has got to be worth a go – unless it’s this Soaping Wheel Brush! We love the idea of a motorised de-grimer, but in practice the results were disappointing.

Soaping wheel brush

The brush aims to help clean your rims by using a spinning head to shift baked-on brake dust. There is also a soap fluid reservoir that you fill with detergent ready to apply directly to the wheels. Power comes from four AA batteries which slot into the handle.

It sounds great, but when we got down to using it, the problems quickly became apparent. First, it didn’t have enough power to rotate the bristles effectively. Tackling caked-on grime – something this brush should easily cope with – was still tough going.

What’s more, the harder we pushed, the slower the bristles rotated. The soap dispenser applied only a few suds at a time – it would be much easier to lather the area yourself. And on top of all that, the device felt poorly made.

We like the fact it comes with easily interchangeable flat and cone-shaped heads. But ultimately, had more been spent on the motor and less on the soap dispenser, this would be a far better product.
