The Nasdaq 100 rose Wednesday, boosted by gains for some software makers including BEA Systems Inc. The Nasdaq 100, which includes 100 of the largest nonfinancial securities traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market, rose 12.19 points to 1,984.08. The broader Nasdaq composite rose 12.63 points to 2,651.79. Business software maker BEA Systems Inc. shares added 62 cents, or 4.7 percent, to end at $13.69. Shares of another software maker, Symantec Corp., also rose. The stock added 66 cents, or 3.5 percent, to end at $19.53. Citrix Systems Inc. jumped $1.15, or 3.4 percent, to $34.94, after a Banc of America analyst said he expects the Internet software maker to report solid second-quarter results July 18. On the declining side, Marvell Technology Group Ltd. fell 55 cents, or 3 percent, to $17.92. The company's interim chief financial officer, Mike Tate, recently resigned, and a Jefferies & Co. analyst said the move may be viewed with concern. Infosys Technologies Ltd. shares fell $1.15, or 2.2 percent, to end at $51.68 after the Indian outsourcing services provider cut its full-year outlook, citing the strength of the rupee. The company generates most of its revenue overseas. Patterson-UTI Energy Inc. shares fell 46 cents to $25.09.
