Sify to Work With Microsoft India

Indian Internet services provider Sify Ltd. said Thursday it will work with Microsoft Corp. to help Indians gain access to the Internet and IT services, by offering cyber cafe subscribers the use of licensed Microsoft Office software. The software access means subscribers will be able to use the cyber cafe as a virtual office, Sify said, and subscribers will be trained for Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) Office certification. The company said its partnership with Microsoft Corp. India Private Ltd. will include other Microsoft certification programs, as well as inexpensive utility computing and online educational content offered through Sify's l-way cafes. Sify also said it is supporting Microsoft's "IQ PC" plan, under which Microsoft is selling a $500 computer in India that comes with a basic version of its Vista operating system. Sify's American Depositary Shares added $1.44, or 14.2 percent, to $11.59 in morning trading, having earlier hit a new year-high of $11.67.
