Steakhouse at Bayshore closes

01.02.2008 02:00 Home - Source: JS Online

Cameron's Steakhouse has closed at Bayshore Town Center in Glendale, after 14 months in operation.

The closing of the upscale restaurant is the highest-profile exit of a national tenant since Bayshore was expanded in 2006. The Discovery Channel store at Bayshore closed last year when the broadcaster liquidated its brick-and-mortar retail division.

"We are disappointed that Cameron's has chosen to close its restaurant. Given the success of other restaurants and retail stores at Bayshore Town Center, we are confident that we will find a great replacement at this location," said David Wass, chief operating officer for Steiner Properties Inc., which operates the center. Bayshore's other national chains include the Cheesecake Factory, Devon Seafood Grill, BD's Mongolian Grill, California Pizza Kitchen and Bravo.

Cameron Mitchell, the Columbus, Ohio-based owner of Cameron's Steakhouse, also operates Mitchell's Fish Market at Brookfield Square mall, which remains open. Cameron Mitchell announced in November that it had agreed to sell its Cameron's Steakhouse, Mitchell's Fish Market, Mitchell's Steakhouse and Columbus Fish Market divisions to Ruth's Chris Steak House Inc. for $94 million. The sale is expected to close early this year.

A spokeswoman for Cameron's did not return a call seeking comment.

The Cameron's opening at Bayshore came at a time when the Milwaukee area saw an influx of national chain restaurants, including two other steak houses: Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, at Brookfield Square; and the Capital Grille, downtown. The late Dennis Getto, the Journal Sentinel's former restaurant critic, was tough on all three in his reviews, saying there were better values at longtime local steak restaurants.

Also Monday, Bayshore said it was conducting a national search for a new general manager to succeed Bud Schneider, who has retired, Wass said.
