Huntington Bancshares to cut dividend in half

COLUMBUS — Huntington Bancshares Inc., the Ohio bank that has lost more than half of its value in the past year, will cut its dividend in half and plans to sell $500 million of convertible preferred stock to boost capital, the bank said yesterday.

The announcement of lowering the dividend from 26 cents a share to 13 cents, effective July 1, was included in Huntington’s report that first-quarter profits jumped 33 percent.
