Little Rider's cowboy and horse toy recalled for high lead levels

The Cowboy on a Horse Little Rider Toy should be taken away from children because its surface paint contains high levels of lead, a U.S. safety commission warns.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which issued the recall Tuesday, says the battery-operated toy measures about 22 centimetres (8.5 inches) in height by 20 centimetres (7.5 inches) in length. The rider is wearing blue pants and a red shirt, and the horse is brown.

Only Little Rider toys with UPC code 603678086101 printed on the packaging are included in the recall.

About 6,000 of the toys were sold at discount stores in the U.S. from April 2007 through January 2008. They retailed for between $5 and $7 US.

They were imported from China by Los Angeles-based Master Toys and Novelties.
