MILAN, Mich. - Mark Brant has been having so much fun in his 700 acre sandbox over the last several weeks that he said his wife has begun referring to herself as a "quarry widow." For nearly a month, Mr. Brant has watched semi truck after semi truck haul hundreds of pieces of huge construction and earth-moving equipment into the former London Aggregates quarry that he owns in Monroe County's rural London Township. "I've had a blast," said Mr. Brant, who bought the quarry site several years ago because it was relatively inexpensive, but hasn't developed anything on it yet. "I've moved some dirt around here and leveled some things out. Whatever you'd want as an [equipment] operator is right here." Loaders, bulldozers, scrapers, graders, excavators, backhoes, dump trucks, hiboys, lowboys - anything that any age boy would want to play around with - is all in one place and will all be for sale next week to the highest bidder. The equipment is being brought in from as far away as Traverse City, Mich., sandblasted, painted, and tuned up for what promises to be a huge multi-million dollar unreserved public auction Nov. 11 that is expected to draw hundreds of buyers from around the world. Auction house worker Adam Conrad checks in a another arriving piece of construction equipment.
