Nike, Steve Nash unveil 'Trash Talk' shoe

Sportswear company Nike and Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash have unveiled a new basketball shoe made with manufacturing scraps. The Trash Talk shoe, which was set to debut Thursday night at the game between the Suns and the Dallas Mavericks, is modeled after Nash's current shoe but uses leftover and recycled materials.  The Trash Talk shoe is made out of recycled material and factory scraps.
(Nike) The shoe includes pieced-together scraps of leather and synthetic leather waste from the factory floor and a sole made of special materials including ground-up rubber from a shoe-recycling program. "Any opportunity to promote the environment and preserve our planet is a step in the right direction," Nash said in a Nike release. "I'm very excited to be one of the first athletes to wear the Nike Trash Talk. I think people will love the shoe, and hopefully by wearing it, I can inspire others to try it out as well." The shoes will be packaged in a fully recycled cardboard box. Nike says Trash Talk is the first performance basketball shoe made from manufacturing waste. With files from the Canadian Press
