Warriors' Ellis hospitalized with head injury

06.10.2007 15:00 Sport and Travel - Source: USA Today

LA'IE, Hawaii (AP) — Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis was hospitalized Friday night after injuring his head in practice.

He lay face down for 20 minutes, showing only slight movement before he was carried off the court on a stretcher. Ellis hit his head on teammate Brandan Wright's knee.

Ellis was coming off a screen set by Wright, lost his footing as he tried to split a pair of defenders and slammed his head against Wright's knee as he fell to the floor, the San Francisco Chronicle said.

Team trainer Tom Abdenour tended to Wright while waiting for paramedics, stroking his arm to test for feeling.

A team spokesman said Ellis was "aware" as he was carried off, but had no further word on his condition. He was taken to Castle Medical Center in Kailua, 35 minutes from the Warriors training camp on the campus of Brigham Young University, Hawaii.

The 21-year-old Ellis averaged 16.5 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds and was chosen the NBA's Most Improved Player for the revitalized Warriors last season, his second in the NBA.
